Why We’re Mad About Morgantown

Why We’re Mad About Morgantown

Morgantown, a city that rests along the banks of the Monongahela River, has long since been known as the home of West Virginia University, and is one of the largest cities in the state. The Morgantown Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), which includes both Monongalia and Preston Counties, is actually one of the top-rated metro regions in the country. With a population of over 130,000, the area exudes a small town vibe, but offers top notch facilities and services. From its award-winning farmers market, to its reputation for both nightlife and culture, to its Money.com ranking as one of the “Best Places to Retire” – this city certainly has quite a bit to offer. But for those considering a move to the area, is there promise of growth and expansion in the future?

Morgantown Economic Development

According to a report completed by the WVU College of Business and Economics, there were over 5,000 jobs added to the job market between mid-2009 and 2014. The primary areas of industry include a big push for healthcare, as well more consumer-driven sectors such as retail and high leisure.

In line with this, the employment rate is expected to grow at a yearly rate of around 1.5% over the next few years. The city’s population is also projected to grow at around 1% annually.

With these types of numbers, it’s difficult not to envision the types of prospects present in the region. In fact, just recently, two brothers from Morgantown have undertaken a commercial development venture estimated to be between $40-70 million. The vision is to implement both restaurants and retail spaces, as well as medical offices. With these sorts of opportunities continuing to crop up, it’s easy to understand the mentality behind one of the larger additions to the Desmone corporation.

Morgantown Meets Desmone

This March, the team at Desmone opened our own satellite location in Morgantown in order to take advantage of the growing opportunities of the region. In addition to better serving current clients, our firm is very aware that the Morgantown MSA is a wonderful network to be a part of.

In addition to being situated in a great region geographically, this new office also shares a building with the Monongalia County Development Authority (MCDA), whose mission is “to promote, develop and advance the business prosperity and economic welfare of Monongalia County.”

With such consistent growth and developed business goals, our team at Desmone is thrilled to have a presence in the Morgantown area. We hope that you’ll be a part of this exciting journey with us by signing up for our monthly newsletter in order to get updates on all things Desmone!
