Meet Katie Yatzkanic. Originally from Olean, New York, she is now part of our design team here in Pittsburgh. Katie joined Desmone in October 2013 as an Assistant Project Designer. In this role, she aids the Project Managers with the details of their ongoing projects. She is currently working on multiple single-family residential projects. Of her work, Katie says, “While I enjoy all phases of a project my favorite part is getting to see a building you worked on being constructed. I also really enjoy going back to a project to see how people use the space.”
Katie came to us as a graduate from Kent State University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters in Architecture earlier this year. While in school, Katie studied abroad in Italy. Of that experience she says, “Studying abroad really expanded my knowledge in architecture and life. I was able to experience firsthand a range of styles of buildings and how they were being used and experienced by others.” Of her career choice, Katie has always had an appreciation for architecture, but it wasn’t until her involvement with Habitat for Humanity that she solidified her decision. “I saw how architecture can change a person’s life and decided it was what I wanted to do, “Katie says.
