Hailing from Lahnam, Maryland and brought on board in June of 2013, Gerrod Winston is one of Desmone’s newest Senior Architects. Gerrod currently lives in Pittsburgh’s East End in the Regent Square neighborhood with his wife and two beautiful little girls Having lived in Pittsburgh since 2005, Gerrod describes the city as “a collection of very diverse neighborhoods, all with their own special characteristics which define them and make them unique.”
Gerrod attended the University of Maryland at College Park earning both his bachelors and masters degrees in Architecture. Since high school, Gerrod knew he was interested in pursuing a career in architecture. Of his profession he says, “Architecture (and man-made structure) has an impact on everyone in the world to some degree or another. Whether you live or work in a high-rise in Manhattan or a bamboo hut in the rainforests of the Amazon, architecture is everywhere. It’s fulfilling to play a part in shaping the environment that people live and work within.”
As a Senior Architect and Project Manager, he is responsible for project design, technical coordination, construction administration and developing and maintaining client relationships. His favorite part of a project is the construction phase, saying, “It’s always exciting to see a project move from drawings and details on paper to real-life. The transition from virtual to tangible is certainly my favorite part of all projects.” Outside of the office, Gerrod is actively involved with a number of organizations: The Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh (Board Chairman), Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation (Board Member), and The National Organization for Minority Architects (Member). Gerrod also trains and teaches a youth class at Ryer Martial Arts Academy in Shadyside.
