The Cork Factory Restaurant’s design is a direct product of the combination of creative minds with the power of 3-D rendering software. The project started with a simple hand sketch and, literally within a matter of hours, developed into a full building concept. Desmone Architects teamed an architect with an illustrator to create a design in real time. In Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, the restaurant takes advantage of the site’s waterfront location by creating a series of indoor and outdoor terraces, extending over the Allegheny River. The materials of this new, freestanding facility take their inspiration from the adjoining warehouses and marina by incorporating traditional, nautical materials like brick, wood and sails into a modern design.
