Desmone Architects worked with RIDC and Carnegie Robotics to transform the former Heppenstall Steel building located in Lawrenceville into a world-class robotics innovation and production facility. Carnegie Robotics, a spin-off company of CMU’s National Robotics Engineering Center, builds highly reliable robotics products and smart sensors to improve productivity, reliability and safety in a variety of commercial, industrial, and defense markets.
The renovation calls for the addition of two new 8,500 square foot floors inside of the existing single story 29,000 square foot high bay structure. The new floors will house three new clean room assembly labs, two new research and development labs, office space, team building and conference spaces. The remainder of the facility will also be used for the manufacturing of large robotic apparatuses, warehouse and distribution.
