The exterior of the building will be comprised primarily of brick and cement board panels. As a way to tie both the brick and panels together, an over-sized block module will carry the length of the building as a continual base element. Addition exterior details include the use of a slanted standing seam metal roof and large sunshades placed around the building which act as a functional element that also provides variation along the building planes.
The site itself provided some challenges for the design team to work through with the owner. They include the difficulty of redeveloping a residential neighborhood for commercial use. The challenge consisted to removal of blighted residences purchased by the client and consolidated into a new parcel for the project. The team then had to review options that allowed us to infill the existing basements and reinforce the new foundations which was done by using geopier rammed aggregated soil stabilization. Additional considerations the team had to address include parking logistics on a confined site and increasing storm water measures for current and future expansion.
