Wendell August Forge is America’s oldest and largest forge, producing hand-wrought ornamental metalware in aluminum and other metals since 1923. In March 2010, a devastating fire destroyed the Forge’s historical workshop, corporate offices and flagship retail store. Although the company was able to continue production in a temporary location, the Owners were determined to rebuild. The company decided to rebuild a brand new facility in Grove City, just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The company’s new 62,000 square foot corporate headquarters, retail flagship store, manufacturing facility and distribution center was completed in mid 2013.
“Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of a building fire, this store evokes heritage and stability with brick, dark wood, and metal. Exterior stone carries into the vestibule, where light and dark woods create a welcoming focal point. Extensive daylighting maximizes visual comfort, while an observation window lets shoppers see craftsmen in action. Among their handiwork is the majority of the store’s fixtures, also available for purchase. A History Room tells the company story with pieces denoting its 90-year past.”
